Nareen Young

Chief Executive Officer
nareenyoung Diversity Council Australia

Nareen Young was appointed CEO for Diversity Council Australia (DCA) in June 2007.  DCA is Australia’s workplace diversity peak body and provides leadership and guidance to Australian business.  This appointment is the most recent highlight in her notable career as a senior employment relations practitioner thus far.

Prior to commencing as Senior Consultant for DCA in August 2005, Nareen was the Director of the NSW Working Women’s Centre, funded by Federal and NSW Governments, for seven years until July 2005.

Under Nareen’s leadership, the Centre worked with diverse communities in NSW to provide women, their partners and families with resources to achieve practical workplace solutions and to work towards overcoming workplace discrimination, both systemic and individual. In this role, Nareen provided significant media commentary and analysis, was a guest lecturer at many NSW tertiary institutions, spoke widely at a range of business, government and community sector forums, and published.

In 2003 Nareen was nominated for a Human Rights Award and Medal for her leadership at the NSW Working Women’s Centre in “… developing and implementing innovative and sustained activities …” so that the Centre was an accessible and mainstream legal service. She is also widely credited for developing and implementing a contemporary model of community service delivery in this regard.

Nareen is an acknowledged expert and leader in all areas of gender equity and diversity in employment. She says that working with Diversity Council Australia provides her with an opportunity to combine all of her skills, particularly her understanding of the theoretical with her capacity to focus on the practical.
