What's it all about?

The Labour-Management Studies Foundation at Macquarie University together with the Melbourne Business School presents a one day seminar Women and Workplace Negotiation: How To Get What You Want to equip attendees with skills and essential techniques for getting the best results from difficult negotiations taking into account gender differences.

“... men view relationships in terms of power
and dominance, making competitive behaviour
appropriate; women focus on building support
and social networks.”
Mara Olekalns, Professor of Management (Negotiations),
Melbourne Business School, University of Melbourne

Who will benefit?

Women in middle to upper management seeking to strengthen their influence and negotiation skills and represent themselves more effectively.

What's in it for you?

Participants will:

  • gain a better understanding of the dynamics of different styles of negotiation

  • understand and learn to use core bargaining concepts to improve outcomes

  • learn to reframe negotiations from a power-focus to an interest-focus

  • identify and learn to overcome common mistakes made by women in negotiation

  • learn techniques for managing emotion in negotiation

“ …the goals we set at the start of a negotiation
are predictive of our outcomes,
women disadvantage themselves.”
